Who we are

The International Betting Integrity Association is the leading global voice on integrity for the licensed betting industry. Our members share a common goal of combating betting corruption to protect the integrity of sport and of their businesses.

Established in 2005 and formerly known as ESSA (Sports Betting Integrity), we are a not for profit association whose members include many of the world’s largest regulated betting operators, active across six continents. Members undergo a rigorous due diligence process and must adhere to our code of conduct committing them to responsible betting practices.

Khalid Ali
Khalid is responsible for running the International Betting Integrity Association.  Since joining in 2008, he has driven the association to become a leader on betting integrity by building the membership to almost 50 betting brands and launching a number of research and education projects. Khalid has represented the regulated betting industry in a number of high-level policy forums such as the Council of Europe’s Convention on Match-Fixing, the European Commission’s Expert Group on Good Governance and the independent review of integrity in tennis.

Matt was appointed in June 2017 to manage the International Betting Integrity Association’s alert platform which monitors irregular and suspicious betting activity. Matt advises members and is the main point of contact for sports governing bodies, betting regulators and law enforcement agencies in carrying out betting integrity related investigations. Prior to joining the association, Matt spent almost ten years with Betfair (now Paddy Power Betfair). In his most recent position as their Integrity Manager he managed a team which monitored and investigated any unusual or suspect betting patterns on the leading bookmaker’s sports betting products.

Silvia Paleari
Silvia joined the International Betting Integrity Association in 2018, having previously worked with the association as external consultant for four years.  Silvia has extensive knowledge of national, international, and European public affairs, having worked in this domain for a decade. She represents the association in European fora such as the European Commission Expert Group on Integrity and also supports the development of the EU-funded Erasmus+ projects.

Jonathan is the Global Head of Trading for The Betway Group and has been Chair of the association since 2019.

He joined Betway in 2013 after 10 successful years at the helm of Sportingbet’s pioneering live football product. Prior to joining Sportingbet he worked for Tony Bloom and Victor Chandler in Gibraltar after having set up the Trading desk of South Africa’s first corporate sports betting operation, Superspreads in Capetown. He started his career with William Hill and Ladbrokes in London. He holds a Post Graduate degree from The University of Leicester’s Sir Norman Chester Centre for Football Research.

Christian is Director of Group Legal Services & Compliance at Stanleybet Group and has been Vice Chairman of the association since 2017.

In 2013, he was promoted to Stanleybet’s executive management board, having joined the Stanleybet Group in 2010 as legal counsel. Before representing the gambling industry in-house, Christian spent 10 years working as a corporate lawyer in private practice in the UK, specialising in mergers and acquisitions.

Bill is Group Director of Security and Community Affairs at William Hill plc.

Prior to joining William Hill in 2006, Bill was Head of Intelligence for the British Horseracing Authority (formerly the Jockey Club) while seconded to the Gambling Commission (formerly The Gaming Board of Great Britain) ahead of the introduction of the 2005 Gambling Act. This followed an exemplary 23 year career serving in the Cambridgeshire Constabulary, where he held various roles including Detective Chief Inspector, Chief Inspector Operations and a number of senior intelligence and strategic roles.

David is Head of Regulatory Affairs for GVC and is responsible for leading the company’s regulatory engagement efforts in a number of international jurisdictions.

Prior to joining GVC in 2019, David spent four and a half years as Public Affairs Manager at Paddy Power Betfair. Before working in the betting industry, he worked for a leading trade association in the sports sector, where he was involved in coordinating integrity measures from a sporting perspective, and in Brussels as an advisor in the European Parliament.

Eric Konings is Sports Betting Integrity Officer at Kindred, acting as a link between the operations and compliance parts of the company in striving for sports betting integrity.

Eric has a long and profitable experience in sports betting himself, and is an experienced speaker on the subjects of sports betting and sports betting integrity. He studied Sociology and Business Studies at the University of Amsterdam, and wrote a thesis about the stakeholder relationship between Kindred and local governments.

Glynn is Director of Operations & Performance at LadbrokesCoral Group. He is also Chairman of the East of Scotland Bookmakers Association.

After joining Ladbrokes in 2015 as Director of Trading Operations, he transitioned through the merger with Coral and then the purchase of LadbrokesCoral group by GVC Holdings into his current role. He started his corporate career at Bet365 where he was responsible for in play proposition. Born into bookmaking, he has held a personal gambling license since his 18th birthday.

Ronan is Deputy MLRO and is responsible for Sports Betting Integrity at Paddy Power Betfair.

Ronan joined Patty Power Betfair in October 2018, having previously been Head of AML Advisory in Bank of Ireland.

Prior to this, he worked in the FS Risk Advisory practice at EY specialising in financial crime as well as holding Compliance and Internal Audit positions at the National Irish Bank. Ronan has over 15 years of experience in financial services, primarily in financial crime and risk management.
