How are IBIA and its members preparing to safeguard the biggest FIFA World Cup ever?
In a recent interview with Gaming Intelligence, IBIA CEO Khalid Ali outlined what’s at stake: the 2026 tournament is set to generate unprecedented betting activity.
Major sporting events are usually safe from an integrity standpoint. But as Khalid puts it, the goal isn’t just vigilance, it’s intelligence-led oversight of global betting markets.
That approach is possible in well-regulated markets, where multi-operator monitoring and data-sharing create a complete picture of activity.
IBIA’s preparation rests on three pillars:
• Monitoring via IBIA’s Global Monitoring & Alert Platform (MAP)
• Structured intelligence-sharing through FIFA’s Integrity Task Force
• Prevention through targeted education initiatives
This isn’t theory. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup, IBIA supported the monitoring of global betting markets, with no suspicious activity detected across the tournament.
For 2026, that model is being strengthened even further.
A key driver is FIFA’s evolving integrity framework. Through its Integrity Task Force, FIFA now brings together all six confederations alongside international stakeholders, including IBIA, reinforcing a truly coordinated, global approach.
Recent Task Force meetings, including those in Miami, have focused on refining monitoring strategies, testing integrity scenarios, and strengthening coordination ahead of the 2026 cycle.
Because effective integrity protection isn’t reactive.
It’s about building a system where suspicious activity is identified, assessed and addressed, and backed by trusted cooperation between regulators, law enforcement, sports bodies and operators.
